Is your little one starting daycare nursery or school soon, and are you wondering how to adapt his/her schedule to the new routine?
Are you concerned about the way he/she will fall and stay asleep at nap times while at nursery or school?
Is he/she exclusively breastfed and you need to find a way of introducing the bottle or reducing feeds?
Do you want to make the process smoother and easier for the whole family?
Before your little one starts the nursery or school sleep transition in Barcelona, it is important to have a plan and to consider various different factors in regards to sleep. It's always better that little ones learn more from us rather than letting them cry in a strange setting. You can offer your little one support while learning so he/she will have it easier when starting this new chapter in life. Perhaps it is a good idea to start teaching your child to fall asleep more independently before starting nursery. Making them feel confident with your presence, your touch, your voice and slowly reducing the support is a good way of showing them how to learn new skills while still maintaining the strong bond with your child.
Also looking at the times he/she will nap when at nursery and working out a schedule that can make nighttime more restful by preventing overtiredness. When a child goes to sleep at bedtime having not had enough daytime sleep, his/her cortisol levels will probably be high and that may make him/her have light sleep through the night and possibly wake completely in the middle of the night.
There can also be an element of separation anxiety where your child wants to stay with you all the time and catch up from all the lack of contact he/she has had during the day. Perhaps feeding constantly during the night to compensate for the amount of calories that he/she has not had during the day.
These and many more worries may be on your mind now. I can help you identify the solutions that can adapt best to your life circumstances, therefore making the beginning of nursery or school a smooth and happy transition for all of you.
I specialise in guiding families through the developmental sleep phases their little ones experience, employing gentle and evidence-based practices. I’m accredited from OCN London and the Child Sleep Institute in Canada. I have learned a comprehensive understanding of the intricate biological dynamics involved in an infant’s sleep. Through personal experience with my own child’s recurring fevers and their profound effect on sleep, I was motivated to acquire specialised knowledge by seeking guidance from reputable sleep clinics and experts. I was once a new mama and an expat living in London, I understand the unique challenges that come with becoming a parent while being away from home. I know first-hand how valuable the support of an expert can be, and now I'm here in my hometown Barcelona and I aim to help others have the best possible experience in their journey into parenthood. By embracing a gentle and nurturing approach to sleep practices, my primary focus is on fostering a robust bond between the infant and caregiver. This special connection holds the power to profoundly influence the quality of sleep. My goal is to create a tranquil and harmonious environment that promotes restfulness for both the child and their caregivers. Through empathetic understanding and genuine connection with your child's unique needs, you will not only gain profound insights into their world but also establish the groundwork for their long-term success and well-being. I firmly believe that cultivating a secure attachment with your child is paramount in ensuring they experience restorative and high-quality sleep.
